Overview

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead our accounting operations and support the controller in ensuring a high-performing, efficient, and compliant accounting function. The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on leader with deep GAAP expertise, strong operational understanding, and experience managing teams in large, fast-paced, or high growth environments.

 

This role will oversee accounting managers and staff, drive process improvements, support operational decision making, and play a key role in the month-end close and financial reporting process. The Director of Accounting will report to the Controller.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies and procedures
  • Review and analyze financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance reports
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure audit readiness
 
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals across the division
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and structured development plans
  • Oversee workload planning, delegation, and review cycles for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
  • Build a high-performing accounting team that can scale with the organization
 
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support system implementations and enhancements
  • Drive standardization of accounting practices across business units
 
Accounting Operations & GAAP Compliance
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit requests
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure consistent application of U.S. GAAP across the team
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and process documentation within accounting operations
  • Support the Controller in ensuring the integrity and reliability of financial reporting
 
Business & Operational Support
  • Partner closely with operations, FP&A, and other departments to provide accounting insights that support decision making
  • Offer technical accounting guidance for new business activities, operational initiatives, and process changes
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and leverage system capabilities
 
Financial Review & Analysis
  • Review financial results and key metrics to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare and provide meaningful analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
  • Support the Controller with acquisitions and review of 3rd party valuations. Also support the Controller with reporting deliverables and presentations for leadership
 
 
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of accounting operations, close cycles, reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in distribution, construction, or related industry
  • Experience in a multi-entity, high-growth environment
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and system implementations
  • Experience working in a public company or SOX-compliant environment

 

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation
The listed pay range reflects the expected base rate for this position. Within the range, individual pay may vary based on experience, qualifications, and work location within the state. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
  • Base: $160,000 - $190,000 per year
  • Bonus: 30% Target Bonus
  • Total Compensation (Base + Bonus): The successful candidate could reasonably expect a total compensation package in the range of $180,000 - $245,000.
  • Equity: This role is eligible to participate in the Lowe’s Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program.
